My Pin of the Month is an editorial design by Laura Normand. A French independent graphic designer, she uses geometric shapes and line to create an initially striking and stand out magazine design.
'Stories Collective' is a online fashion magazine that explores every aspect of life, using a 'story' as the basis for each issue. This issue is part of the editions based on movement, with the graphic lines reflecting the title 'Plastic Playtime'. I love how different this layout is - it caught my eye straight away on Pinterest - and after having researched more, I can see the skill that has gone into designing each of the magazine issues. Each is different, covering so many techniques and styles of art. Not all of the designs are by Laura, though she has done a few, it is great to see the different styles of each graphic designer. All use only photographs and a tiny amount of text to label where items are clothing of from, but the layouts of each make a minimalist design much more visually appealing.
I'd love to be creating things that are so eye catching straight away, turning minimal information into a work of graphic art. It is playful and unique, with thought gone into things like colour scheme and angle/placement of the shapes. Being interested in editorial design, I am definitely going to be keeping an eye on this magazine to see what the designers throw at it next!
